Eine 3.700 Jahre alte babylonische Keilschrifttafel zur Landvermessung und -Aufteilung dokumentiert erstmals die (wohl schon lange bekannte) Lösung zur einfachen Ermittlung rechter Winkel.

“With Si.427, we can actually see for the first time why they were interested in geometry: to lay down precise land boundaries,” he said.

“This is from a period where land is starting to become private — people started thinking about land in terms of ‘my land and your land,’ wanting to establish a proper boundary to have positive neighborly relationships. And this is what this tablet immediately says. It’s a field being split, and new boundaries are made.”

Die Lösung wird wohl tatsächlich schon länger bekannt gewesen sein, spätestens seit dem Bau der Mastabas im Alten Reich. Die Zwölfknotenschnur wurde auch schon von ägyptischen Baumeistern verwendet https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zw%C3%B6lfknotenschnur. Eigentlich ist sie eine Dreizehnknotenschnur, und ich verwende sie heute noch, wenn ich Hausgrundrisse ausstecke.
